There is nothing sadder than washing an old dog who never really liked water. His lips and his ears droop and his facial expression becomes something near “I’ve completely given up on life.” His wet lavender scent afterwards is little consolation.

Had a bad dream my baby died last night. Then I got a big white pit bull and carried him around with me on my shoulder for a few days hoping having a new friend would ease the pain. Alas, it did not and I woke up almost in tears.
